“In just ten years, artificial intelligence will become so advanced that humans will no longer be needed “for most things.” — Bill Gates

In recent years, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) has captivated the world, each breakthrough pushing the limits of what we once thought possible. As I witness these remarkable developments unfold, my admiration for AI’s potential grows. Yet, alongside this awe, a more unsettling thought lingers: what if, in its relentless pursuit of perfection, AI strays into dangerous territory—beyond our control, beyond our understanding?

In this project, I’ve imagined the City of Mannequins—a metropolis ruled by an intelligence far beyond the comprehension of its inhabitants. The name might evoke images of lifeless figures in shop windows, but in reality, the city is anything but empty. Here, AI is the heartbeat of society, shaping every aspect of life in ways that increasingly alienate the humans who once called it home. In the City of Mannequins, body parts are sold as individual, meticulously crafted pieces, ready to be assembled into new beings. The possibilities for beauty and precision are endless. Yet, for all its potential, this process also invites disaster. Some mannequins, the result of flawed designs or careless execution, emerge as grotesque aberrations—disturbing echoes of humanity, imperfect and unsettling in ways no algorithm could predict.

The City of Mannequins is both a vision of a possible future and a stark warning. While this remains my imagination’s creation, the threat is closer than we think.
